Curriculum and Schedule
The weekly schedule for the fellow on the OB/GYN hospitalist service consists of 48 clinical hours and 4 administrative hours. Weekly clinical hours will consist of 36 as an OB/GYN hospitalist and 12 as an academic attending.
The OB/GYN hospitalist hours will be worked in either 3 twelve hour shifts or one 12 hour shift and one 24 hour shift. These shifts will be part of the established hospitalist work schedule. For the first 6 months of the fellowship the fellow will work alongside an inhouse attending hospitalist. For the remainder of the fellowship, based on attained skill level, it is anticipated that the fellow will work the shifts with backup available.
Academic shifts will involve teaching and supervision of the residents and medical students on the labor and delivery teaching service. These 12 hour shifts occur during weekday hours and are part of the established academic attending schedule separate from, but in tandem with, the hospitalist schedule.
The 4 administrative hours are spread throughout the week and consist of required committee participation, simulation activity (both participation and teaching), and scholarly activity which should include, but not be limited to, clinical research, didactics and Quality Improvement.
